Use your real name or the name your block knows you by, and join the neighborhood where you live or own property. One account per person. Do not pretend to be someone else, run a second account to get around a suspension, or hand your account to anyone else. Invite codes are meant for the person you gave them to, and that is part of what keeps this place feeling like a street rather than a stadium.
Neighbors are allowed to see things differently. What is not allowed is harassment, threats, name calling, pile ons, or bullying anyone into silence. No slurs and no hate toward anyone based on race, color, religion, national origin, immigration status, disability, age, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation. If a thread gets heated, step outside for a minute. Nobody has ever regretted that.
Do not post someone's address, phone number, workplace, license plate, or photos of them or their children without their okay. Do not share screenshots of a private message outside the conversation it came from. Doorbell and security footage should only be shared when it is genuinely about safety, never to publicly accuse a neighbor. What people share here stays inside the neighborhood.
HiNeighbor is for neighbor to neighbor help: a hand with a fence, a borrowed ladder, a ride to the airport, a recommendation, a heads up about the road being closed. Please skip national politics, endless debates, and anything that has nothing to do with your area. If it would be strange to bring up while handing someone back their hedge trimmer, it is probably not for here.
No multi level marketing, no bulk messaging neighbors you do not know, no reposting the same card over and over, and no advertising a business into a neighborhood you do not live in. If you happen to do something professionally and a neighbor asks for your help, that is wonderful. Leading with a sales pitch is not.
Photos and short videos are welcome in messages and in neighborhood posts, and they help enormously. Share what you took yourself, keep it to what a neighbor needs to see, and ask first before you post someone else. Children only with their grown up's blessing, and blur a plate or a house number when it is easy to. Nothing adult, violent, gory, hateful, harassing, frightening for kids, illegal, or copied from somewhere it was not yours to take. Media that goes against these guidelines comes down, and depending on what it is, the account that shared it can be suspended or closed. If you ever see something that does not belong here, report it and we will handle it quietly and quickly.
Describe a tool's real condition, be clear about what you are asking for and what you are offering, and do not promise skills or licenses you do not have. Review only work you were actually part of, and never trade or pressure anyone for a good rating. If plans change, say so early. A quick heads up saves a neighbor a whole afternoon.
Know your limits, and call a licensed professional for anything electrical, structural, gas, roof height, or permitted. Do not lend a tool you know is unsafe, and do not ask a neighbor to do something you would not do yourself. Meet in daylight the first time, tell somebody where you are going, and trust your gut. HiNeighbor does not screen or supervise anyone, so a little care goes a long way.
Hank is here to help you draft, plan, and reach out. Do not use Hank to write harassing or deceptive messages, do not paste other people's private information into it, and please read what it wrote before sending it. Messages Hank sends on your behalf say so, because neighbors deserve to know who is on the other end.
Every post, card, and message has a way to report it, and you can always email support@hineighbor.ai. A person reviews it, usually within a couple of days, and sooner if someone may be in danger. You can also block a neighbor at any time, which stops messages and hides you from each other. Reporting is confidential, and we do not tell the other person who reported.
Most of the time a friendly note is enough. When it is not, we may hide or remove a post, limit a feature for a while, pause an account, or close it for good if someone is putting neighbors at risk. We look at context and history rather than one bad day, and repeated or serious harm moves faster to the stronger end of that list. Emergencies belong with your local authorities first, then tell us.
If we got it wrong, tell us. Reply to the notice we sent or email support within 30 days, explain what you think we missed, and a different person will take a fresh look. We will write back with what we decided and why. If we made the mistake, we will restore your content and say sorry properly.
These guidelines work alongside our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy. We will update them as the community grows, and we will always post the new date here. Thank you for helping make this the friendliest corner of the internet.
